Logis Royal

It’s the résidence of the royals (or at least was) so of course it has an appropriate driveway.

And a marvellous view…

where they can look down on their subjects?

Like all sensible people, royalty likes dogs. Here they guard the front door.

Built in the 14th century as a home away from home and hunting lodge by King Charles V’s brother, it’s been used as a residence, a court, a prison and now a tourist attraction. Charles VII visited regularly and met with Joan of Arc here after her victory when she persuaded him to claim the crown. He also lived here with Agnés Sorel (his favourite mistress) and eventually gave the lodge to her. It’s smaller than you’d think inside, but presents with lots of decorating ideas.

There’s Agnés on the wall exposing a breast. I like the window seat. I could use it to read the book I bought in the gift shop. It’s in French!

I like the sturdy handrails on the stairs. Carved right into blocks of stone, they are probably to current code.

They say Anne of Brittany is responsible for all the froufrou détails in the second addition.

Joan of Arc was in this very room. That just blows my mind. Maybe I like history after all.

Remember looking at the Logis Royal from the Public Garden? Here’s the Public Garden from the Logis Royal.

And remember my view? Here’s their view looking at my house.

Woof. Love to you all.

Be happy.

  1. Wonderfully interesting commentary and photos. Feels like actually being there!

Have enjoyed all the blog so far, including the market scenes and the wide spectrum of items for sale (though what is that black item you are saving for Saturday?), the banister carved into stone and the sense of history present everywhere. Wow!
