Made it Home!

It sure takes a long time to fly from Paris to Vancouver! The day gets longer because of the time changes, you eat more because you have more time, but it’s tough on an old lady.

One perk along the way was – I got to meet a drug sniffer dog! He was so cute, and he let me take his picture. He was moving so fast he was a blur!

I said goodbye to ma sœur Tuesday night. She was able to get her connecting flight and is home already. I overnighted in Vancouver, had a heart warming lunch with ma fille (thanks JJ) and will get home Wednesday night. The body clock is out of whack, so not much sleep, even though the bed was wonderfully comfy! We North Americans are soft, and I’m glad.

My room had a pretty active view. And France isn’t the only country to have art everywhere. YVR has art too.

It was an interesting security procedure at YVR. I knew I was going to do some walking today, so had my knee brace on. My shoes had set off the beeper the last two flights, and I already had them off, but I beeped anyway. I took off the brace and they x-rayed it separately, and swabbed me. Once cleared, I was sitting down to get myself together again and they offered me wheelchair assistance! No! I’m not there yet. Do I really look that bad? I’m going to start working out!

Kudos to the Air Canada pilots flying into Prince Rupert who can land a plane galloping around in the winds onto a runway so wet you leave a wake. So many times we’ve said “the flight’s probably not going to be able to land” and yet it does.

At the airport I discovered one of airport buses has been replaced by an old yellow school bus, and our little ferry has been replaced by whatever this is. (thanks for the picture DH)

Little plastic orange porta-potty and all. It’s not easy for the tug operator to pull/push it up to the dock. He was quite skillful. It appears all kinds of talent is required up north.

Home never looked so good. (not a recent photo)

Thanks a ton for joining me. It’s been so much fun. Next we have a conference in Vancouver, my 50th high school reunion in Victoria, a week on Haida Gwaii in July, walking Hadrian’s Wall in September, a cruise if I can find one that works….

I don’t know what I did to get my life. I don’t deserve it and all the wonderful people in it, but since I’m here I might as well enjoy it as much as I can.

Love to everyone.

  1. You are deserving of every single thing and person and beautiful aspect that comes your way. I’ve never enjoyed or learned so much from a blog. You see all, and you see the all in everything. Merci millefois!
