Paris – once more!

Just a little more wandering around Paris to do, and then we’ll head back to Loches. We started off with a Seine River cruise.

Seeing so many things and learning so much – most of which I immediately forget. I do remember that during one great flood the river water level reached the neck of this statue by the bridge.

I have so many photos of people I don’t know. I wonder how many other people’s photos I’m scowling and squinting in.

After the cruise we wandered around on Île de la Cité, one of two natural islands on the Seine in Paris, and where the city of Paris was founded in Medieval times.

Here’s the first public clock in France. It’s been here since 1350 or so. It’s truly dramatic in person.

The island has lots of shops, cafés, and, surprisingly, a large area where plants, flowers and trees of all kind are sold. Oh the orchids! I wish I’d taken some pictures. Next time. There are so many reasons to return.

The biggest attraction on the island is the Notre Dame Cathedral. It’s very crowded.

We stopped for a little rest in a park, next to the cathedral, named after Pope Jean Paul XXIII. Here’s his statue. There was music and singing, sunshine, pigeons and trees. It was quite lovely. Here’s the park from the bridge as we were leaving the island.

There are either 37 or 39 (depending on who’s telling you) bridges over the Seine in Paris. This is my favourite one, of those I’ve seen.

These shops along the river bank have been a symbol of Paris for so long. I wish I had a better picture of them. Again, next time.Next we walked back toward the hotel, having lunch along the way. We would pick up our luggage (they’re so kind to hold it for the day) and head to the 7:35 pm train to Tours. We’ll be in Loches by 10:00.

Hope your day is as good as mine.
